Sail Maui

Most Maui catamarans motor. Sail Maui's three boats are built to sail, and the crew puts the engines off and the sails up on every trip the wind allows. Paragon, a 47-foot John Conser design from 1992, carries 25 out of Lahaina; Akialoa and Alihilani, 55 and 64 feet, carry 49. Molokini in the morning, Lanai at midday, the sunset every evening.

The company

Back in Lahaina Harbor since December 2025

Paragon has sailed the Auau Channel since 1992, when John Conser built her as a racing catamaran, 47 feet with over a thousand square feet of sail; the company still calls her the highest-performing sailing catamaran in Hawaii. Akialoa, a Gold Coast cat built in 2002, and Alihilani, a 64-footer from 2011, joined later. All three carry trampolines forward, and the two big boats have two heads and a freshwater rinse.

The August 2023 fire closed Lahaina Harbor for more than two years. When it reopened on December 15, 2025, Sail Maui was one of four operators invited back; president Don Prestage told Hawaii News Now the company was excited and nervous in equal measure, and the company page says it still feels the weight of the voices that said too soon. A free community sail for Lahaina residents is on the calendar.

The one to book

Molokini Snorkel & Sail

Five hours from Maalaea on Akialoa, off the dock at 7:30 after a 7 am check-in at slip 72. Continental breakfast on the way out, the crater for the morning, a buffet lunch and an open bar of local beer, white wine and cocktails on the sail home. Snorkel gear, flotation and reef-safe sunscreen are aboard; full-face masks and spray sunscreen are not allowed.

The Lanai Coast sail is the Lahaina equivalent on Alihilani: 9:30 to 2:30, spinner dolphins most days, croissants and banana muffins out and shoyu chicken back.
