Koloa Zipline

Eight lines strung across the 22,000-acre plantation that grew Hawaii's first sugar, ending on a half-mile run over the Waita Reservoir. Groups of twelve, guides who teach the tricks, and a rule that rain is not a reason to stop. After Hurricane Lowell in September, a four-line version runs while the rest of the course is rebuilt.

The company

Built on Grove Farm land in 2012

Koloa Zipline opened in 2012 on Grove Farm land above Koloa, the same ground that held Hawaii's first commercial sugar plantation. It is owned by Olie Rivera, who ran Kauai ATV on the neighboring trails for 25 years and has said the permits were the hardest part of building the course. Between the platforms the company has been replanting native trees, with the stated aim of a small botanical garden at every tower.

The lines run in a chain from the short Melaleuca and Uluhe runs up to Koa at 1,700 feet and Waita at 2,600, which the company calls the longest zipline on Kauai. Riders go seated with handlebars, hands-free, backward, or tandem with a child. On September 8, 2026 Hurricane Lowell tore through the south shore; the company has been running a four-line tour on the intact half and expects the full course back in November.
